Hey guys, I recently purchased the 500 GB external Buffalo Drivestation, so far I had only transferred one folder to it without any problems

However now when i plug in my external HDD the HDD doesn't show up on "My Computer" untill I take out the USB, then it briefly shows up and disappears, as the USb is out. (the usb i take out is obviously the one conecting the HDD to the computer)

Go into the disk management tool and format the drive to NTFS, this should solve it.

I just purchased the Buffalo 500GB DriveStation Turbo USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

part # BFFL HD-HS500U2-R.

My PC will not recognize it.  I am running Windows XP.  Please help.

http://forums.buffalotech.com/buffalo/view_profile?user.id=446" target="_blank">greenbentlady , is the drivestation showing up in disk management or device manager? It might just be a partition problem, if it is showing up in disk management then right click on the buffalo drive and select delete partition and once done right click on it again and select create partition, go through the partition wizard (making sure you select primary partition and leave the rest ofd the settings default) If it does not show up in disk management or device manager then let me know.

PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Davo,

It does not show up in disk management or device manager.  I have used Windows Explorer and My Computer to try to view it.  I also had the computer search for new hardware/components and nothing shows up.

I am thinking about returning it before that option (time) expires - please help.  Thanks.

Paul

Before returning it I would Try another PC just to be sure its not a USB controller issue, also If you have another USB cable I would try that.  If it still does not work then I would swap it out for another unit. (could have been damaged in shipping)

Davo, I have the same issue but I stupidly backed up everything I have on my 500gb quadruple checked it and it was working fine, then restored my system and now for some reason it is not in my computer, it does however show up in my devices '' system working'' it also shows up in safley remove hardware but I cannot access the drive itself????  it has everything on there so I really need to get access to it? any help would be great

Found it in disc management as per above but now it wants to format it, which will in turn delete all my data? is there a way around this?
