One Drive is Y the other is Z
Since its set up as a RAID 1 Doesnt everything we put on Z automaticlly end up on Y the other half of the disk?
In other word we put our data on Disk Z and its backed up on Y because of the RAID1 setup?
Thankyou

Jason

That's saying there is no Raid array 2. Raid array consists of disks 1-2. Which in your unit, which judging by the model number is a linkstation Pro Duo is a two drive unit.  So if you look there under disk information you see two drives and they each have the same exact amount of free space available. That means your RAID config is operational.

ok configured properly yes. but does that mean whatever is put on 'Z' is also on 'Y' ? thats what we want to know.

Hi,

Did you understand the RAID1 ? Currently you have only one array, the array includes 2 drives which are mirrored permanently. You are not able to assign two different drive letters to each HDD. You only have one drive (for example Y:) which is mapped to a share on the array and not to one disk. You can have differentshares on the array, like "share","backup", "Private" etc., afterwards youassign your drive letters to these shares and not to a specific disk.

Therefore you will never have an automatic sync or mirroring between two drive letters.

Hope you understood my bad english.

Peter

Yes!!! If you have RAID1 then the information is mirrored onto the 2 separate drives
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

The disks in the Linkstation themselves are mirrored, so anything that goes on disk 1 is on disk 2. However, they will NOT show as separate drives. They will appear as a single drive. Mapping 2 SHAREs to drive LETTERs on your PC does not access each drive individually, they map to separate SHARES (folders, basically). RAID of any type is still not the same as a backup. If both drives die, or the device itself dies, you're still out of luck. Make sure you have backups, that is, make sure you have the data on more than one device, not just mirrored across 2 drives with RAID.
