I have a 2.0 tb Terrastation Live which (I think) is at version 2.1 firmware. I have an issue with the media server which I have posted on these forums here.

I have received no replies to the problem and it occurred to me that the problem may be due to the fact that that the NAS is running upstairs and the media player(s) are downstairs and there are two routers/switches between the devices. I decided to shut down the NAS and move it downstairs and plug it into the same router as the media player. I shutdown by using the power button and got the usual message that the system is shutting down before the power was shut off.  I moved the NAS downstairs and powered up but after a while I received the message that it could not load the kernel (Error E04). I decided to download the latest firmware (2.14) and perform a firmware update through the EM system.

I powered up by holding the reset button and got the message "System EM mode Booting ..." but it got no further. I waited at least 10 minutes but it does not get any further although there is some activity showing on the lights. I have subsequently tried a normal boot and, after several minutes of "Loading kernel please wait",  I now get the message "System Now Booting ...." but it gets no further.

Any ideas out there? I don't mind re-setting the system to defaults but I'd like to keep the data on the RAID 5 disks if at all possible. I can't re-set to defaults via the web interface as the system doesn't boot up.

Cheers,

Norman

No replys over the holiday period so just bumping this to ensure it's seen. I need to get this working ASAP or I'm going to have to buy another solution.

Buffalo tech support came up trumps.

Have now managed to get the system into EM mode by removing each disk in turn until the E04 fault didn't happen. With disk 2 removed it went into EM mode and I was able to update the firmware. The device then booted and showed an error on disk 1 and went into "degrade mode". I was then able to restructure the array without losing any data.
