Trying to obtain DHCP IP and/or upgrade firmware on Linkstation HD-H120LAN...

The problem I'm actually trying to solve is that I can't get the Linkstation to connect to my router, using DHCP or with a fixed IP address. I can access the Linkstation directly from my PC using an ethernet cable, and am able to use NAS navigator to view the Linkstation parameters, use IE to get to the administrator web interface and change the IP settings, I can even map a network drive from my PC to one of the shares on the Linkstation. I'm running firmware 1.47, and Buffalo tech support told me to upgrade to 2.05. I'm dubious about the updater off the Buffalo website as the readme.txt says a 1.xx updater will only see 1.xx Linkstations, and a 2.xx updater will only see 2.xx Linkstations. Seems to me that you cannot therefore upgrade from 1.xx to 2.xx. The updater does not find any linkstations on the network (this is still attached directly to my PC).

Do I need to update the firmware? If not, are there any suggestions for how to get the DHCP function working? The router gives out IPs in the range 192.168.2.100 - 192.168.2.199, subnet 255.255.255.0. I know my router works OK on all ports, and the cable is the same cable I use to connect to my PC.

Thanks!

1.47 is the latest firmware for that hardware, the technician you spoke with must have been confused: the README is correct. Try hooking the drive up to the router and hit the INIT button in the back for 5-10 seconds to reset the drive to defaults. This will not delete data.

Thanks Colin137 - I tried pressing INIT but had no luck. The Linkstation reset itself but there is still no connectivity to my router.

Try a direct connection, and force the firmware update using the "for all other models" section of http://www.buffalotech.com/knowledgebase/users/kb.php?id=10142&category_id=0&sid2=" target="_blank">http://www.buffalotech.com/knowledgebase/users/kb.php?id=10142&category_id=0&sid2= , then reset it with the INIT button again.
