Removing a Disk from LinkStation Pro

Hi,

I am running a LinkStation LS-WVL3A6. There are 2 bays.
I used to run two disks. No RAID configured so they run independently. Recently disk 1 was dead (confirmed subsequently) and I removed it from the bay. LinkStation now runs normally with disk 2 but the only annoying issue being a flashing red LED on the front panel. I try the web console and seems there is nothing I can do to tell LinkStation disk 1 is gone. I removed all the shares / folders on disk 1 already.

 

Any idea?

Of course the error is there, you removed the disk, there is no way to get rid of the error.

That "error" isn't really obvious to me, since I purchased the LinkStation cage-kit without the disk. I put in two hard-disk myself, they are of different capacity, and different brand. I never consider the LinkStation with two, and only two, disk as ONE single unit.

I guess it's a reasonable thing to turn off that error (auto or manual) when there is no integrity issue. In my case, I only have shares on one drive, and there is no RAID. Thus LinkStation is absolutely ok to function with bay 2 empty. It actually rather "funny" for me to get a piece of new hardware just to turn off a blinking LED, don't you think?

you would need to use the boot image from a /1D unit in order not to the the error message, to the best of my knowledge this image is not available on the US forums.

I don't really understand your suggestion ... but it seems certain that the behavior is by design, and there is no normal (or easy) way to get around it.

This confirmation is all I need for now. I won't take the time and risk to fix the glitch... Instead i will cover the LED with a tape until I put in a new drive (when i need it in the future).
