Hi,

I have a linkstation Duo LS-WVL and have moved my iTunes library to the NAS.  I have an apple TV to stream to my sound system and an iPAD to use as a remote (via the apple remote app).  I thought the point of an iTunes server was to be able to play my music without needing to have my PC running but the remote does not find my library unless my pc is running with itunes open - in that case what is the point of the NAS with iTunes server?

Am I missing something?

thanks,

AP

The point is that the linkstation appears as a shared library within iTunes itself so of course you need the PC turned on.
PM me for TFTP / Boot Images / Recovery files  LSRecovery.exe file.

Thanks for the reply.  How is that any different to using a shared folder on my PC?

A shared folder would not automatically be populated in itunes! :-P

So, the bottom line is that you have to have the PC running and iTunes launched on it in order to share with Apple TV and other devices?  That is quite frustrating, can someone from Buffalo confirm?

I've also tried to run itune on my ipad - connect to my library on the NAS and stream to the apple TV - that would negate the need to have my PC on because the instance of itunes is running on my ipad...but guess what?...that doesn't work either...very frustrating

Yeah, not sure what an "apple server" really does for you.

I know this topic is a year old, but here is a solution for apple tv, You need the app "AirPlayer" from the App Store, it costs.  It is a DLNA app for the Iphone or IPad, then you send the movies from your IPAD or IPhone to the Apple TV, works great for me.

That's not really a "server" then by definition. I couldn't get itunes server to work on my NAS. Even after hours of googling and wading through forums. If it's that hard to setup, it's a failure in my book.
