Model: DriveStation HD-CEU2.   As a new user, I started my first backup before I installed Secure Lock Ware which I now want to use - dummie me.  Can I just stop the backup that's running and manually erase the files and folders that are already backed up on the Drive Station and start over with the Secure Lock Ware process and then do a "first" back up" with causing problems?

As long as the backup software has an option to stop or cancel there will be no problems with what you described.  If there is no cancel or anything it is suggested to let the backup complete to avoid possible getting a locked unit.

lpops

Ok, thank you.  I'm using Memeo AutoBackup and it doesn't seem to have a stop or cancel feature so I will let it run to completion.

My backup completed overnight.  I am now at the point where I think I want to just let the backup be password protected, which I did when I started the backup, and not worry about making it "Secure Lock Ware-protected", if possible at this point.

Consequently, I have the following questions:

1)  Can I just abort the "Secure Lock..." process with no ill effects?  It's at the stage of "The attached device is Secure Lock Ware enabled." and it's asking me to "disconnect and reconnect the device to continue"?

2)  Or should I disconnect and reconnect the device like it says to do and then say I don't want to encrypt the device (the manual says if I "click Yes... device will be encrypted and all data currently on it will be lost" and "Click OK... Now...reformat the device")?

AngelsAbys

If you just want to start over than clicking "OK" and it will wipe the drive, encrypt it, than you can start your backups anew

lpops

Ok, thank you.  If I somehow end up with a "locked unit" is there anyway out of that?

AngelsAbys

Pending on what you mean by "locked" if you forget your encryption password the only way to reset this is to format the whole unit and set it up again

lpops

I was just referring to your comment about getting a locked unit at the beginning of this conversation.  I have my password saved in a secure location.

AngelsAbys

That locked, no there is no way to remove a status like that outside of filing for an RMA or exchanging the unit at the place of purchase
