Hello, this issue might have come up earlier, but I could not find the solution by searching the forums.

Device: LinkStation LS-WX2.0TL/R1

Firmware: 1.24

Computer: Windows Vista Business N

I'm trying to set up a secure backup procedure from my Vista computer to the above mentioned LinkStation over the company network. What I have done so far is:

1. I set up a new user via the web interface

2. I chose the user name and password to be the same as my Windows user/pass (according to LS manual)

3. I set up a new shared folder with access resctrictions, allowing access to the above user

4. I run the Windows Vista Backup utility (Accessories->System Tools->Backup Status and Configuration)

5. I select to back up to a network location, choosing the above created shared folder

6. When prompter I enter the user/pass that I created on the LinkStation (made to be the same as Windows user/pass)

At this point Windows notifies me of the following problem:

"The network share could not be accessed for the following reason:

You need Full Control permission for the network share. Make the user a co-owner of the share, with Full Control. The network share cannot be on a computer running Windows XP Home. (0x8100002A)

Please ensure that the network location is valid."

I don't understand what the system wants me to do. It doesn't seem to be possible to change the permissions to the shared folder from windows. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

My final goal is to set up a secure backup system where different users can back up their files using WIndows Backup on the LinkStation. Only the users who created the backups should be able to access their files. It seems like a reasonable thing to do. Am I on the right path?

Thanks,

Oskar

Thanks for the quick answer davo!

Is it that plain and simple? The LinkStation just does not work with Vista Backup? Is there any work-around? What can it be used for if not for backup? Does it work with Windows Seven?
