Why does it take so long to delete files from Buffalo Terastations? I have two 4TB TeraStations, two 4TB LinkStations, and two 2TB TeraStations. Last night I started deleting a large number of image files that I backed up to another location, and they all show still "Preparing to delete Immediately" and the "Items to delete" counters are still incrementing very slowly. One is at 118,098, one at 45,885, and the other at 50,458. There's got to be a quicker way to delete lots of files.

You can try to just delete the shares from the web interface directly

I don't want to delete the entire "Shared" folder, just a large number of images in some subfolders. Using the web interface, I don't see anyway to navigate the "Shared" folder hierarchy to just delete the folders I need deleted. I finally cancelled the image deletion I started last night because I needed to boot the system and do some meaningful work. The Link & TeraStations do a great job for me and work well with Memeo backup, so I don't have to worry about images being lost due to hardware/operator failure. However, trying to get the files deleted from them is a real pain. All these Buffalo NAS drives are setup as RAID-5 and attached to a 1GB/sec. wired ethernet network with no other devices, so network speed should not be a problem. I looked at the Activity Monitor during the deletion process, and there was minimal network traffic

The time estimation for deletion of data for a NAS can be inaccurate and the data is probably being deleted at a quicker rate than your OS can expect.  The problem is sort of on both sides (of the NAS and the OS).  The NAS in that it is sending limited response to the OS so it can focus on deleting the data and generally the OS calculating the estimated time based off of the response from the network resource.
