Unable to connect os x 10.4 mac to Linkstation live

I just got my brand new 500GB linkstation live LS-CHL. Its connecting to my PC and everything is fine there but I am unable to get my mac to connect to it. I have followed the instructions. I think it might be a firewall issue not sure but I am pretty sure I have disabled the firewall and opened my connection. If I am able to connect to my pc no problem but not my mac it must be some setting somewhere but I am not sure any help would be great

To mount a share folder with SMB, open 'Finder'. Goto Connect to Server and entering "smb://Buffalo". Replace "Buffalo" with the network name or IP address. You will then be prompted for which share you would like to connect to.

it wont let me FTP into it as well. I can ping/browse/ftp into it from my PC no problems

hmmm I can access it if I am hard wired in but not if I am on airport any ideas?

Try afp:// instead of smb.

YES!  Thanks for the tip about smb- as a PC user I totally forgot that mac os x is unix (I gave up unix years ago because of the whole good at unix vs. actually dating conundrum...)- when I wanted my friend to have access to my files (over a 1500 mile vpn connection!!)

 

we kept trying the silly apf:// (which, of course didn't work) because the drive will only mount via network as a Samba dealy...
