LS-C500L WebAccess keeps Disabling itself - ARGH!

I've got an LS C500L LinkStation at home.  It's properly configured for WebAccess and I use it all the time to access my media files (music and movies) when I'm on business trips.

Right now, I'm in San Diego and my LinkStation is home in Indiana.  I was able to access it yesterday, but today I cannot.  Just talked my wife through the login process and she has reported that Webaccess is DISABLED.  Yesterday it was obviously ENABLED, and I'm the only person in the universe (well, until tonight) with the administrator login password.

Thing is, this isn't the first time it's spontaneously disabled itself.

It was working fine last Saturday, but when I did a test on Sunday (right before my flight to California) it was disabled again.  Took me a while to get it re-enabled because I could not remember the password I had set up to protect the server's name from being co-opted by another LinkStation owner.

I do not know the firmware version - I'm in a hotel 2500 miles away from it and clearly can't log in to find out - but I am fairly confident that it's the latest and greatest. Is it common for the server to spontaneously disable WebAccess?  If so, I'm really disappointed, because the primary reason I purchased it was for remote access while on the road.

I'm heading back tomorrow and will have the darned thing in my hands tomorrow evening, so any suggestions are more than welcome!

Addendum - I was able to access the drive every day and night this week while on travel.  I was even showing it off yesterday to a colleague during one of our meeting breaks.

I had my wife log in to our router and she was able to confirm that the drive is up and is connected to our network via the correct IP address that I've permanently assigned to it - 192.168.1.5 in this case.  It's just that WebAccess is disabled, and thus the drive is not calling the BuffaloNas.com "mothership" to report the IP address our ISP has assigned to our network.  There is no chance that someone logged in to the server to disable WebAccess, and disabled WebAccess is the only thing apparently wrong with the configuration and local setup back in Indiana.

kenbuzz,

Behavior like that could mean that the firmware image on your unit may be corrupt, and I would update the firmware on your Linkstation.

You can download the appropriate firmware updater from this site:

http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/

and putting in your model name or model number.

You may need to force flash the firmware, instructions for which can be found here:

Okey dokey, I'll give that a shot tonight and report back whether that did the job. Thanks for the insight!
