I have a Buffalo Linkstation LS-250GL SN: 45820260914397G F using Firmware version 1. It has been working fine until yestersday. When I try and view the share I setup it tells me it is no longer found. When I look at in in the browser, it now shows that DISK 1 is unformatted. I have also noticed that the size and other info is no longer being reported. So my questions is:

1. Will resetting the device resolve this issue? I am assuming not, since HD has an issue?

2. Will upgrading the firmware change this issue in anyway good/bad? I am assuming not again since this seems to be HD related?

3. What can I do to recover any data that remains on the HD? Will a tool like UFS explorer that I read mention on Raid failure posts be successful in accessing the data on the drive?

4. Can the HD be removed from the enclosure and mounted internally/externally and the data accessed in this manner?

I really need to be able to recover the data from the drive if possible, so your help on this issue is truly needed.

It may not, but it certainly can't hurt. One of the first steps in troubleshooting would be to see if the same problem persists after a reboot.

2. Will upgrading the firmware change this  issue in anyway good/bad? I am assuming not again since this seems to be  HD related?

It's also possible that the firmware could be corrupt, and upgrading it would solve the problem if this is the case.

Very possible.

4.  Can the HD be removed from the enclosure and mounted  internally/externally and the data accessed in this manner?

The drive is in a Linux based format, so a Windows computer will not be able to read it natively. The aforementioned UFS Explorer program can translate from the Linux format though.

Sethz,

I tried 1 and 2 with the results being drive still shows as unformatted. I will now try installing UFS and see if it can read the drive and access the data. Plz let me know if there is anything else I can do.
