[LS-CHL] take's a while before accessable

Hello everyone,

 

I have a Buffalo LS-CHL with firmware version 1.07.

 

After a reboot of my Windows XP machine, it takes a while before I can access the files on the LS-CHL with the file explorer of Windows. Usually it takes about half a minute or so.

 

Is this normal?

This depends entirely on your network topology. It can take some time for your PC to connect to the network, but again this is down to your network layout.

This is completly normal, a computer takes time past normal boot up to option the IP information for the network/devices that are connected be it via DHCP, or static, needs to confirm its existence with other devices located accross the network.

Sorry, I forgot to tell something about my network situation. It's just a simple LAN with a DSL router from D-Link with 2 computer connected and offcourse the LS-CHL.

 

But, if I compare it to my job's workplace, I have instant access to the network drives if I boot up my laptop. It's a company network with active directory and so on, but it takes no initially time to verify my ip address or something.

 

And it does not matter how long I wait after the boot of my computer. My internet connection is then already available, so I have received a valid IP address. When I first connect to the NAS after lets say half an hour after the boot, then the same problem occurs.

 

It's always the first connection to the NAS that is 'slow', after that it works fine.

What's the IP address of the computer and the NAS (according to NAS navigator)?  If the connection to the NAS is excessively slow are you accessing the device via its IP address or NetBIOS name (i.e. via Network Places).

The IP address of the computer is 192.168.0.197 and according to NAS Navigator the IP address of the NAS is 192.168.0.198.

 

I always use the NetBIOS name because I made a 'network connection' to a share to set is as a network drive.

My laptop also needs some time to restore the network connections (to the NAS and to other computers). So it seems to be normal :)

Ok...thanks everbody for your replies!

 

One last word....I think it's normal indeed. When I'm opening Winamp with a stored playlist with songs from the NAS after a complete PC restart, it instantly plays. So there is a data connection instantly after startup. While I play the song, I open file explorer and I cannot instantly access my NAS....so it's someting in the explorer that needs some time.

 

In my first post I said that I can instantly access files on the server after a reboot at my workplace. I think it has to do with the login window at startup. So, the same time it needs to login at my workplace would be needed by the explorer at home.
