   My original Terastation HD-H1.0TGL/R5 (firmware version 1.03) and my Terastation Pro II TS-H4.0TGL/R5 (firmware version 1.33) can't see each other. They are both in the same workgroup and I have entered the default gateway on each (192.168.1.1). The NASNavigator2 sees both, but the default gateway shows up as 0.0.0.0 on the Pro II. I have double checked that the default gateway is , in fact, entered corrrectly on both. Any help appreciated.

To validate, your original Terastation HD-H series is running firmware 1.03?

If so, there are numerous updates since that version, several which may impact your IP Communication and  backups...

I'd say externally copy (or backup -g-) your original TS and get the firmware updated.  See if that gets you in business.

What do you mean by can't see each other?  If you mean for backups these two units use completely different backup implementations and won't work to backups to each other.

Ah...

In the Web browser under Disk Backup>TeraStation List, neither TS lists ("sees") the other. I specifically purchased the TS Pro II to back up the original TS as well as some other drives. Any suggestions for back up of the original TS besides intermittent manual copying of the data from the TS to the TS Pro II? Thanks.

PCPiranha

As I stated in my previous post that these units are not capable of doing this.  Manually copying is your only option.

@PCPiranha,

Apologies as I don't want to beat a dead horse on this one, but I could've sworn the Terastation received an update to the backup capabilities to allow it to backup to Terastation Pro II's and other Linkstation devices...

Looking @ my old (handwritten -sigh-) notes, updating the old Terastation to firmware ~ 2.12 -2.16 added the ability for it to backup to these devices....

Do you have any way to x-reference the featuresets of the 2.1x firmware versions for the original Terastation to validate this (or to prove my co-workers right in that my handwriting is indeed unreadable)? :)

@the original poster,

Sorry if this is false hope i'm building up for you, but I swear we never had to manually copy data off the one test Terastation, we backed it up to a newer model.....It's a shame i didn't log my backup/migration, only have some old notepads w/ scribbling on them :(  But you'd think i'd remember having to manually copy....(then again, could be losing my mind hehe).

Thanks!

Ah, I stand corrected.  My sincerest apologies RWalker as I was apparantly misinformed.

 Google translate of the japanese release notes:
Ver.2.11 -> Ver.2.12 [2006.12.11]

[SYSTEM]

   * Backup system version was raised.

       * Mutual backup of the product below becomes possible.

        TS-HTGL/R5 series
        LS-GL series
        HS-DHGL series
        HD-HGLAN series (above Ver.1.62)
        HD-HTGL/R5 series (above Ver.2.12)
        TS-TGL/R5 series (release schedule)
        HS-DTGL/R5 series (release schedule)
        HS-DGL series (release schedule)

       * Mutual backup of the product below becomes failure.

        X   ts-TGL/R5 series (below Ver.1.05)
        X   hd-HTGL/R5 series (below Ver.2.11)
        X   hs-DTGL/R5 series (below Ver.2.09)
        X   hd-HGLAN series (below Ver.1.61)
        X   hs-DGL series (below Ver.1.61)

So Rinthos was correct.  Update the firmware.

As an fyi, Credit to whomever I spoke w/ @ buffalo back in 2007 when i wrote this down.

Sorry I can't remember who it was, but if that person is still w/ buffalo, kudos!

And based on the notes below, guess my info was slightly invalid, >= 2.11 looks to be correct.  Thanks for the correction PCPiranha! :)

It took me a while to get around to this. I upgraded the firmware to version 2.16. I am now able to back up the HD-H1.0GL/R5 to the TS-H4.0TGL/R5. Thanks!
