Unfortunately, I seem to be having a problem connecting with/mapping a refurbished Linkstation Live LS-CH1.0TL that I purchased from eCost.com.

I have listed below several of the symptoms of my problem. Any help woould be greatly appreciated.

1. The install cd that I downloaded was never able to complete - it failed when it got to the step of trying to find the Linkstation on the network.

2. However, I see the device on my network - it has been assigned a valid IP and I can ping it.

3. I can access the device over the Buffalo web maintenance page.

4. I can also see the device using the NASNavigator2. However, the program does not allow me to map the device to a drive letter. It shows me the same IP for the device that is listed in my Router attached devices list and the Buffalo Web maintenance page.

5. Whenever I try to access it using either the Run command or the Explorer -> Tools -> Map Network Drive  it fails and I get an error about not being able to reach the Network Location.

6. Also I try to run the firmware updater and it fails with the error that it can't find a Linkstation in need of updating.

System Particulars are
- Vista Ultimate Laptop w/ SP1

-all firewalls and antivirus programs are disabled

-Linkstation has FW 1.06

- connected to network via cable

Any ideas would be appreciated.  Needless to say it is a bit frustrating.  Thanks.

Thank you for being specific with the details, sounds like it could be a couple of possible things.  First thing I would suggest trying is to run a disk check since the web maintenence is still accessable.  Another option is to try creating another shared folder on the device and see if that folder specifically is able to be mapped.  While doing a firmware trial have you tried a force procedure?  http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/FAQ-2-of-3-Force-Firmware-update-procedure-please-read-this/td-p/11011

Thanks for the reply. I am just getting back to this now after a busy week.

1. I performed a disk check and that finished successfully with no problems.

2. I was able to add a share directory, but I am still not able to access using the Windows Drive Mapping features.

3. Something else I was able to determine was that I can use IE to FTP into the drive, but all I see is /Drive1 and /Info - I can't see either of the shares I have and when I try to FTP directly to the shares using ftp://10.0.0.10/Disk1/share">ftp://10.0.0.10/Disk1/share I get an error message that says "550/Disk1/share: Permission Denied"

4. I also don't see the LinkStation when I browse the network from Windows.

My next step is to try the firmware force and I will update when I see if it works.

One question I have about the firmware force that isn't clear from the faq, as I mentioned in a previous post, the lsupdater could not find the linkstation while on the network so do I need to connect it directly to the laptop with a crossover cable?

Thanks for any other help.

I'm having the same problem, got my LinkStation Live 1Tb a couple of days ago and can't get the software installation to work. The install process says "wait for both the top and bottom blue lights to become solid"... the top one does, but the bottom one does not... so I can't complete the process (and indeed have to shutdown the installer app from Windows Task Manager).

How do I access the web interface? How do I get the thing properly recognised by Win XP?

OK so I can see the drive and get access to the web maintenance through http://192.168.1.7">http://192.168.1.7

I'd really like to get this properly set up with Win XP though.

Yes, I am hoping someone can answer this question for me as well or point me in the right direction.

Hello. I was able to get a crossover cable and updated the firmware after I downloaded 1.07.  So now when I run the Firmware updater it finds the unit - where as before it did not.  The firmware update process did not seem to end cleanly - it gave me some sort of error about a firewall running (but there is not one running)  However, the firmware update seems to have worked as everything indicates the FW is 1.07.

However, I am still in the same situation as in the original post.  I can see the drive, but cannot map any shares.  Also, I was going to try and update the firmware again, but the debug feature does not seem to work.

Does anyone have any ideas ?  I am slowly (or not so slowly) going crazy.

Thanks.
