Hi all,

I have just recieved the a LS-WXL : LinkStation™ Duo. The main aim to to place all me media, music, film. pics onto in to share across a wireless network.

The setup has gone fine. I can access it on both my home network and across the internet. I created a folder called, "Media" in the share directory. Then tried to copy across a couple of ~700mb divx files. This resulted in an error, "There is a problem accessing XXX, Make sure you are connected to the network and try again". I then connected a usb hard drive to the NAS, thinking it would be easy to copy across a bunch of file from this onto the linkstation. But I got the same error, even thought the usb harddrive was directly connected!!

What should I do? I ran a chkdisk on the array, and recieved no errors. I then tested transfering a smaller file, 10mb audio file. This seemed to work and I now have a single audio file in "\Share\Media\Audio". Why does the larger video files transfer???

Any help is appreciated..

Matt

Also! I have torrented a couple of 1.5gb divx files on to the Linkstation. This worked fine and I can now stream these onto my laptop. But when attempting to move these files (which are already on the linkstation) from the /download directory to the /share/Media/VIDEO direction I get the same error.

This is driving me nuts!!

Are you mapping the drives via Hostname or IPaddress?  If you are by hostname then dissconnect the drives and remap them via the Ip address in the run box.   Type in the run box \\ipaddressofyournas.

I have just tried now connected the drive directly to my laptop to copy over the large quantity of files. This seems to be working ok, I am not getting the same error as before. I guess a direct wired connection is much better for copying a large amount of data anyway, but still not sure why the wireless connection was giving errors when copying larger files.

I can't test the ip mapping solution just now, but will after work and see if that solves it.

Thanks

Could you confirm what you mean by "discounnec the drives". Do you mean physically unplug the linkstation, or do you me unmap them from where they appear in "My computer"?

Then the run box command. All I have to do is type run, "cmd", then in this window type in your solution "\\MY NAS IP"  e.g "192.168.1.65".

Sorry for rookie questions, just want to confirm tho.

Dissconnecting the drives is the same has unmapping them.  In the run box type in \\ipaddress not cmd.

I had done this and now seem to be able to copy the large files across the wireless network to the NAS.  But how, I no longer have the drive mapped in "My Computer" window. I can only access the directory via the "network" window. How do I map the drive without causing the same issues?
Thanks for the help so far.

Accessing the device via IP as JoshC pointed out is essentially cutting out the middle man of host name resolution that you would use if you choose to connect via the "Network" option.  Follow these steps:

  1. Click Start -> Run *
  2. Type \\<IP_address_of_the_NAS>
  3. Press Enter
  4. A window should open at which point you right click on the share folder you want to map
  5. Choose "Map a network drive"
  6. Follow the wizard instructions assigning a drive letter and making sure the reconnect at logon box is checked
  7. After clicking Finish a window displaying that mapped folders contents will pop up, close this for now.
  8. Check 'My Computer' for results (you should see your mapped share assigned to the drive letter you chose)

*Steps will differ between OS (XP, Vista and 7)

Hope this helps
