Searching the FAQ's and forums has indicated that partitioning is not possible. I see that creating multiple 'shares' is the suggested means of backing up multiple drives to the NAS drive. 2 questions ......

1. Is not being able to partition something that is inherently not possible with NAS drives or is just something not implemented in the firmware?

2. I am unfamiliar with using 'shares' and suppose with some digging and trail and error I'll get it figured out. Do 'shares' at least act like partitions where each share is safe from the others? Am I able to use other Backup software such as Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to manage my backups?

Jason

1. Correct, partitioning drives only works if the drives are local to the machine (via USB, SATA etc) or if they appear local like ISCSI.

2. Yes, shares function as independent root directories. You can use whatever backup software you wish as long as it is able to backup to network drives and does not require agent installation.

Thank you Jason. Understood.

One other thing .... is there a way to put a 'limit' on a shared folder's size? Guessing - 'No'
