The Linkstation worked fine for several years.  It is attached to a Netgear router.  I'm running XP. the shares were mapped to two computers.  at some point the mapped drives stopped worked.  I can see the unit from my webbrowser.  I can ping the IP address.  Unit does not appear in Network places.  It cannot be found using "Run" command using either the unit name or IP address.  I have tried both with and without firewalls and anti-virus programs running.  I'm not able to access it plugged directly into my network card.  Any ideas?

BrainB,

I need you to verify if "File and Printer Sharing" and "Client for Microsoft Networks" are enabled on your PC.  To verify this use the following method:

1. Click 'Start'

2. Go to Control Panel->Network Connections (change to Classic View in the left hand side if you can't find the Network Connections icon)

3. Right-click on your network connection (Local Area Connection if connected via ethernet and Wireless Network Connection if by wireless) and choose Properties

4. In the window that comes up you should see a smaller window that has a label above it that says 'This connection uses the following items:'.  Locate the aforementioned "File and Printer Sharing" and "Client for Microsoft Networks" and make sure both are toggled (i.e. 'checked off')

Post back if this works or if you continue to experience issues.

The settings for Printer Sharing & Client for Microsoft Networks were already checked. Network Path still not found.

So, any other suggestions?   Still getting "network path not found".

I'm bored and the support here is amazingly slow so...

"I can see the unit from my webbrowser.  I can ping the IP address"

If you can see the unit from your browser, can you login and manage it?

If you changed your router, the IP address of the device probably changed if it was using DHCP.  Or did not change if it was static.  Both could cause your issue.  Try checking your computer's IP address against the IP address of the unit (assuming you can ping it) and make sure they're both in the same subnet.  IE- both have a 192.168.1.x  address.

Could be a UPNP port issue too.

thanks for the suggestion. yes, the router has changed since I purchased the Buffalo, but the problems started before I swapped out routers.  am able to ping the Buffalo from the router.   am able to access the Buffalo through the web interface, just not see the files.  I have tinkered with the IP settings and the Buffalo has a 192.168.0.x address.  Still dead in the water.

Yes these settings are checked.  I have several computers on the network and we regularly share files and printers
