New drive not formatted?

I just purchased the Buffalo (HD-CXU2) 1TB Drive Station.

When I connect it to my laptop (using Windows XP) it appears on My Computer as 'CD Drive'. When I double click to open it, I get the following error message:

Disc is not formatted.

Windows can not read from this dic. The disc might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.

When I try connecting the drive to my MacBook, I get the following error message:

The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.

I've disconnected the drive (via the safely remove Hardware option, as it does appear there) and tried connecting again, but the same problem occurs.

Any advice on what I should to to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks!

No answer to this? :/

Am i best just taking the drive back to where I purchased it from and have it exchanged for a new one?

is there any data on the hard drive?

if not, format your hard drive to NFTS (Recommended for windows ONLY)

or to FAT32 if for Mac (works with windows also)
