I have a 1TB hd-htgl/r5 Tera Station that I purchased around May of 2009.  Unfortunately I didn't realize that I was only getting a 3-month warranty since this was a recertified unit.  At about 5-months I got a blinking disk full led on disk3 and a diag led blinking once every 4-seconds. Being unable to locate an exact match ST32500823A hdd I put in a Western Digital WD2500AAJB with same specs...  250GB 8MB 7200RPM. Same symptoms??  Also swapped IDE cable with position4. Any thoughts?  Is this a legitimate hdd change??

You may just need to resynch the drive into the array.  Once you replaced the drive does it show up in the NASNAVI?  See if you can access the web interface.

Had   to rebuild the array before red leds would go away.  I really don't grasp the full meaning of raid error vs. hdd failure??  I am actually back up on the ORIGINAL HDD??

RAID is software and HDD's are hardware.  For more information check out wikipedias pages on both.
