Hi,

I bought a Linkstation quad 3 month ago and installed with 4 HD with raid 5 configuration. Recently, I got my linkstation quad hangup during web admin browsing . Therefore, power off the machine. When I restart, it keep blinking on the blue led for a long time and the web admin is inaccessible. It has been blinking for over night. Therefore, I power off and power on it again. The problem is the same.

I wonder it is LInkstation hardware failure. Therefore, I remove the four disk and insert another HD used before. The linkstation can startup successfully and working normally with 1 HD.

Therefore I remove the 1 HD and insert the original 4 HD. This time it can startup and blue led finally stopped with red LED blinking. I can enter the web admin but cannot access the harddisk data. In the web admin, it show the LS can only identify there are 4 HD with unknown format.

It look like the raid5 configuration is lost. Is there any way I can rebulid the raid 5 configuration without loosing data ? I cannot imagine how this can happen Raid 5 will fail even without hardware failure.

Sounds like the boot image was lost,  I would replace the four drives and try the TFTP procedure.  If you dont have any luck try booting the unit up with only 3 HDDs in at a time until you find the disk the LS will boot up without.

Hi

Thanks for your response.

I think I don't have the luck. However, I did try to boot up 3 HDDs in different ways. The LS can boot up but cannot recognise the 3 HDDs format and raid 5 configuration. Are there any way I can restore Raid 5 configuration ?

Tim.

Replace the bad drive (the one that it boots up without).  Then restructure it into the array.

Hi PCPiranha,

Actually, the four HDD does not have any problem. It does not look like there are any solution to restore my valuable data. I  don't have any trust on the LS/Buffalo anymore. It is unreliable. I will reformat the HDDs anyways.

Thanks anyway.
