Hi all;

I have a brand new Linkstation LS-QL and I understand from fiddling/reading that I cannot set security/permissions on subfolders.  My thought, then, was to create the folders in the root of the Linkstation and just create shortcuts to them where I would like them to be.  The downside to this is that Windows is pretty unintelligent and doesn't let you reference files via the shortcut (i.e. it doesn't treat them like symlinks, nor do Windows symlinks work on network locations).

For example, here is a setup:

\\Linkstation\SecFolder1

\\Linkstation\Users -> Mapps as Z:

Instead of Z:\ is a shortcut to\\Linkstation\SecFolder1 which works as far as clicking through it.

I need apps and users to be able to reference files directly, though... for example:  Z:\SecFolder1\ImportantFile.pdf

The two things I can think of to do are to A:  Something get the Buffalo software to allow permissions to be set on subfolders... or B:  Somehow work up the equivelant of a symbolic link.  All systems are mixed Win XP/Vista/7.

Any and all advice/support would be appreciated.

Dave
