AUTO power down with PC (how can such devices be soled?)

I will never understand how such stuff which is absolutely not working can be soled. I bought a new Linkstation Duo LS-WX2.0TL/R1-EU Firmware 1.22.

This should have an Eco friendly mode, which powers down the Linkstation (power switch set to AUTO) when all PCs in the network (running NASnavigator 2.22) are shut down. But the linkstation keeps running, and running, and running,...

I decided to send this Linkstation back and get my money back, but before I wanted to remove my data and format the HDDs. But this format now runs since 25 hours(!) and is still not finished.

Hands off this junk!
