LS-CHL 1TB - Transfer speed around 250 KBps

Hello,

 

I just bought myself a new Linkstation Live 1 TB and can't figure out what's causing the transfer speed to be as slow as 250 KBps.

 

The LS is connected to the D-Link DIR-300 WLAN router using the network cable found in the Linkstation box; my client PC (WinXP) is then connected to the WLAN (5m, clear visibility). The WLAN itself can't be a problem - I'm getting faster transfer speeds when downloading from internet (again, over same D-Link router), ping time to the LS is less than 1 msec.

 

All additional LS services are turned off; D-Link reports the connection to be a 100 MBit one.

 

Any ideas on what could make my Linkstation that slow? With transfer speeds around 250 KBps it is unusable :(

These units were never intened as a file server the unit will bottle neck at the processor.

I am sorry, but do you realize that I mentioned 250 KB/s, not 15 MB/s? What is a user supposed to do with THIS speed?

This might be a long shot but I would like you to check and see if the Media Server is enabled?   I know you stated that all other applications were shut off but please check for me.  Also the speeds that you are getting are those the read or write speeds?

Also might be worth going through the baseline testing..

 

When wireless LANs are involved, weird things happen (oftentimes just have to change config parameters to tweak it to get a little better).

 

You didn't mention what speed wireless (assuming 54Mbps?).

 

Anyhow, try wired to the same switch @ 100Mbps, disable wireless on your computer, and compare numbers.  You might be surprised... :)
