Does TS5400 (TS5600, TS5800 etc.) just really support max 4GB RAM?

Update 1 (23 Oct 2021):
Went to a local shop and tried two 8GB sticks:
- Corsair Mac Memory
- Geil (a Taiwan brand)
The NAS stopped at "Post error: 0053".

But, when I inserted the 4GB stick back, the NAS also stopped at this error! I was a bit worried, but after taking out the 4GB stick, doing some blowing and cleaning, and reinserting it again, the NAS booted up. Phew!

So, I don't know if the board really didn't recognize the two 8GB sticks or if it was because I didn't insert the sticks properly :(
(I had been spent 1.5 hrs testing things at the shop, so I didn't want to take advantage of their kindness to ask for more tests).

I'm still tempted to try the exact SKU CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9 Corsair stick. Only when it's also not recognized, we can safely confirm that the board doesn't support 8GB RAM.

Original post:
I read in some old topics that TS5x00 series support 4GB RAM at max. Someone also posted a dmidecode output of the motherboard (SUGI by USI) on his wiki which has this info:
Handle 0x0028, DMI type 16, 23 bytes
Physical Memory Array
        Location: System Board Or Motherboard
        Use: System Memory
        Error Correction Type: None
        Maximum Capacity: 4 GB
        Error Information Handle: Not Provided
        Number Of Devices: 2

I wonder if it is really a limit that the manufacturer set intentionally or if it is just a standard thing for description of the motherboard at the time it was produced? Because:
- Thinkpad T460p was used to be said that it can only support 32GB RAM running at 2133MHz at max, but actually mine is now running 64GB RAM at 2666MHz
- an old HDD enclosure I bought in 2014 was said to support up to 8TB, but now I can put a 18TB hdd in it

The guy above tried a 8GB stick but didn't mention specifically if the ram stick has the same brand, same voltage etc... While my TS5400 currently has a Corsair Value Select 4GB 1333MHz 1.5V (CMSO4GX3M1A1333C9). There's some online shop that has the 8GB version of this series (CMSO8GX3M1A1333C9).

So, is there a way to check the ram limit of the motherboard beside trying it out?

Intel lists 4GB as the max for that CPU:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/59683/intel-atom-processor-d2700-1m-cache-2-13-ghz.html

Hi, thanks. Regarding the CPU, this i7-6820HQ of my T460p is documented that it supports DDR4-2133 at max, but as I mentioned earlier the laptop is running at true/real 2667MHz (not lower speed of DDR4-2667 RAM sticks).

Someone on StackOverflow also told that his i7-920 is documented as supporting only 24GB RAM, but he could manage to use 48GB RAM.

May it still be ok to think that the documentation (even from Intel) may not be always correct?

If you've got the ram to try with certainly. Would love to hear that's wrong.

Just found a listing on eBay and a post from DaMaN841 on Sophos forum which confirm that these Atom CPUs (D2550, D525) support 8GB RAM (my TS5400 actually has Atom D2550 1.86GHz, btw). So, maybe the limit left (if there is) would be the motherboard.

Well, however, the TS5400 even an old barebone costs quite some big money here, the online shop that has the expected Corsair ram stick doesn't really support item returning, so I think unless I am willing to buy a new NAS/ backup machine, I should be satisfied with what I have  :-\

Thank you a lot for trying to give some information and advice.
