Hi, I had a brief powerout (1 sek) which reset the linkstation. It did not get back online after this and I cheched it out and it was giving E06 corrupted firmware.

Then I run the TFTP and got it into EM. After this I updated the firmware and the drive is now working. Unfortunately there are 2 problems of which one is serious.

Serious problem: The drive is blank, where is my data ? It is in factory settings and I can see a share directory from in a windows network. I really need the data back !

Minor problem: The webconfig is in japanese.

Buffalo: think about this, it can't be so that the customer looses all data due to a powerout ! I am really stressed about this, the data on the drive is very valuable and has not been backed up for some time.

There are links to change the language back to English:

It can be true that a customer would lose there data on a electronic device that had a power outage.  I would contact a data recovery company if the data was very important.

so what you are saying is that buffalos drives are so crap that you loose all data due to a powerout ?? I only I would have known this before I bought the drive so that I could have selected another brand, argh..

I dissassembled the drive and plugged the WD into my desktop. I'm running some tests on the drive to see what data I can get back. The fs was ofcourse XFS which makes it very difficult to get the data back.

Thank you buffalo for makin a drive which gets corrupted firmware from a power out. Thank you for putting XFS on it so that it will be as hard as possible for me to undelete data.

Usually most users would have this connected to a UPS, possibly a surge protector just for saftey.  You can use any Linux box or Linux bootable CD like Ubuntu that can read the file system.  Ubuntu is a free CD image download.
