Hi there, I have trawled the net & these forums for help on this but no two problems seem to be the same.

I recently bought a linkstation pro LS-XHL 1.5, followed all the instructions, installed it perfectly & mapped a network drive.  I then copied all of my downloaded applications to it for storage & it worked fine.  Once i tried to copy FROM the station, windows said it can't connect to it because its not on the network. NAS Navigator said it went into EM Mode, so i rebooted the drive & navigator said everything was ok. Tried the copy again & the same happened.  So i updated the firmware to 1.20, went fine, EM Mode is not on but the copy will still not happen. Windows says 'make sure you are connected to the network & try again'  I must be connected to it, because i can see the files on it & even rename them.

I thought it might be the settings for my users, but my user & admin are both 'read & write'....

I am running windows 7 ultimate with the most recent updates.  & I must warn you, although I am an experienced user, I am a complete noob with networking & NAS devices.

Frustration is a word that cannot describe how I feel as my linkstation is only 1 day old!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try a direct connection to a pc with a cat5e cable or cat6 then also set a static on both machines.  See if you can then map and move files with all of your firewall and antivirus programs disabled.  If you can get the ip address, see the files, and you have firmware you should be able to see it.  Something within your network or on a workstation/laption could be blocking it.  Try from multiple machiens on the same subnet with a direct connect and try to flash firmware again if this doesn't work, try a force firmware for it.

Ahh ha.... I used a cat5e cable & everything copied to & from the linkstation like a rocket! I forced the firmware, removed the cable & it seems to going fine. I tried a few small files back & fourth a few times, fine. So now I'm doing a large transfer of files, 3,377 approx. I'll let you know how it goes.

Now I seem to have another problem, lol.  I cannot seem to use the web service BuffaloNAS.com.  The linkstation webAdmin says my router does not support upnp or port forwarding, but i know it does, the documentation says so (I know that doesn't guarantee anything, lol).  I'm using broadband from BSkyB & have their netgear router which uses a list of port adresses.  Again I'm not sure about this, but this is a learning curve that is welcome.

Thanks.

Sorted, everything seems to be fine now, thanks for your advice. The only problem I have now is configuring my router & linkstation for web access.
