Problem with QUAD nobody answers ?

Is there a disk size limitation on the Quad, depending of the selling region?  In US the product accepts up to 4*2 To, but it seems in Asia we would be limited to 4* 1To??

Is it a hardware limitation, or just question of firmware? Actually, it should be a pure software issue. I can boot the station with 1.5 To disks, but only using TFTP boot procedure. When I reboot the station in normal mode, the boot fails with the led flashing six times and I have to apply TFTP boot procedure again. Actually I have a NAS with 4*1.5 To which is up and running perfectly, but I can't reboot it using normal mode !!!

I loaded the US firmware 1.10 instead of the 1.11 that we have in Asia, but same issue. My Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5 To is still not recognized even thought the same 1 To disk model is ok!!

May I get support on this, actually I don't care about the guarantee, I'm living in one country where the product isn't supported by any reseller.

Thanks in advance

We do not support replacing disks with larger ones. As an analogy, it is like taking the engine out of a car and replacing it with a different one. While it may be able to be done, no manufacturer is going to support that.

Thanks you for the answer, but the issue is that when I bought the station, the seller told me that I can plug 1.5 To  disks without any issue. He just told me that He can't guarantee more than 4 To in total. It was fare, but actually it doesn't work!!!

I understand perfectly the question of the guarantee, and I'm ready to forget it. As I can't buy my extension through a Buffalo reseller, I understood that whatever the size disk I will lose it anyway. I would like just to obtain the piece of Software allowing me to configure the device like in US.

Actually, I didn't get the choice, it wasn't easy to find the Quad in Bangkok, I bought the one that I found with 1 To embedded that's it, and I when I was back to Hanoi, I found opportunity to do extension with 4*1.5 To.

But now I'm blocked due to this questionable commercial policy. Please help a poor guy who bought a Buffalo product for the first time, definitively if I don't find a solution I will be the last time. I would like just to get opportunity to drive Ferrari like you in US !!!

Again, I'm not willing to replace the 1 To disk,  I want just to add a new one with 1.5 To, on top of the existing one, even if I know that using raid the capacity will be limited to 1 To. This is really creasy, all the terms and conditions and guaranty document that I have in hand allows me to do. There is no mention at all about the size maximum of the disk!!!

So, how to contact somebody accountable from Buffalo and efficient, call center is SEA are useless?

Retailleau

So nothing appends, still impossible to get valuable answer, either by Phone, email or even post on this forum. So far nobody seems able to indicate is this NAS supports a1.5 TB hard drive, even there is no restriction at all in the commercial and legal documentation.

May I get answer from  Buffalo Quad product line to know at least if such drive capacity is supported by my product as it is in Europe end US?

Retailleau

It's really a pity when we realize that we bought a product but without possibility to get any support. At the beginning a least, sometime somebody accepted to give an information but since few days nothing. No answer on the forum, no answer to the emails, no hot line speaking English ..... Nothing ...

Different Buffalo regions have different firmware and feature sets.  Installing a firmware from a different region using the TFTP program seems like an unsupported action.  Also, keep in mind that the mods and most users on these forums are in North America so complaints directed at Buffalo Asia aren't hitting their mark.  I found a bunch of forum threads listing the directions to upgrade drive capacity, and some of them implied they were out of the US so it seems it is possible, just unsupported.  If Asia only sells 4TB units, their firmware probably only goes that high.  Just my two cents

I can understand the commercial policy per region, but my concern is different:

1)     Technically hypothesis of the firmware doesn't make sense. It's the same firmware in Asia than in Europe, and in Europe the Quad is sold with 2T Byte Hard Drives. I tested also the 1.10 that is official in US, both works perfectly until I reboot the station.

2)     Whatever the product limitation if any, somebody should know and tell me. Actually, the legal documentation and guarantee coming with  the product is extremely clear and there is no limitation on the SATA disk that we can use

3)     Even if this forum covers USA/Canada area, I suppose that the moderators have minimum of links with Buffalo Corporate support.

Again I would like jut to be in touch with Corporate Support from Buffalo to be in touch with somebody knowing the product. I don't think my request is not reasonable.
