linkstation mini 1.0tb: I can't recognize the mini through ethernet on laptop

Hi:  Please...desperate!  my linkstation mini 1.0tb: can't recognize the LS through ethernet on laptop? (Mac Leopard 10.6.2) plus, no BTech softwarewill install at all, must go through menu 'go' to server

 

 

  Multiple problems since Feb and my 3rd mini.  Any answers to various questions would be very appreciated.

 

1) the original software disc 101.en (2.03 nasnavi,105 firmware) doesn't function at all on either this (Sept/Oct) my 3rd (replacement) mini.  not install, nor install.  I have 2.20 and 2.22 navinas now and while they see the mini, can't open.  I get a netauthagent failure in dialogue box.

 

2) so, I can only access through 'go' to server on finder.  I type in the 10.0.1.6 or similar--10.0.1.2 etc;  or sometimes a 169.253.137.xxx etc.  Confusing! But I can get on that way without nasnavi. 

 

3) MOST bedeviling:  I can't use my ethernet port for the mini (I did it that way in previous two minis since mac and airport/mini hate each other) as an external drive.  the green light goes out as I swap the ethernet cable from router to the laptop and stays out...therefore, I can access as a HD.  Why?  Any help?  Moderators??? Support guys?
