Linkstation Live 1.5Tb - cannot access over internet

I have a Linkstation Live 1.5Tb connected to one of the LAN ports on my Netgear DG834 wireless router/modem.  I have given the LSL a fixed IP and told it that the DNS is my router's IP. All works fine when I am at home and I can go to buffalonas.com/myLSL and access files. However, if I try and access the drive from outside the house, I get a "cannot find server" message in the browser. Incidentally, I am in the UK and use BT Broadband.

 

The LSL is set up for web access using port 9000 and I have added a new service and rule in the DG834's setup so that calls to the Linkstation are routed to the LSL (although this could be the problem, as I could only get access to the LSL at home by putting the IP of the router in the forwarded address, rather than the IP of the LSL; if I used the LSL's IP, I get the "Check your internet settings" message from the LSL's admin console when configuring network access).

 

I have also noticed that the LSL does not appear in the list of services using UPnP in the router's diagnostics page, but is that because I have told the LSL not to use UPnP but to use port 9000?

 

A bit confused. Anyone else got this combination to work over the internet?

Thanks - I went to that site and it said it couldn't see me. So I changed the IP in the router that requests for port 9000 were being forwarded to: originally I set it to the LS, but this caused "Internet settings are wrong" messages, so I changed it to the IP of the router. This allowed access internal to my house. I have now changed the forwarded IP to that of the LS and all is working fine, both in and out of the house.
