Can somebody please tell me how to cancel a backup job on a LinkStation Live.

I have problems on all four of my boxes.

First attempt was some time ago, where I tried to backup one NAS to another and it failed. However, backup job is still showing on box as running, not failed.

Recently I bought four Buffalo DriveStation 500Gb USB drives to back up my NAS drives on the basis of the hardware would be 100% compatable. I set up backup jobs to run, only for those to stop after hours of running. Again, I have no method to cancel these backup jobs on each of my boxes.

I am on Firmware version 2.10, which is the highest I can find for a UK users.

I have no faith on the LinkStation backup software now, so will be resorting to copy and paste over my network to get my data backed up to my DriveStation USB boxes - not good!

I had the same problem as you have.  I was backing up to a USB disk an kept getting errors about failures and running backup jobs that are not running.  I kept getting told to "boot in EM mode" but everytime I tried this it didnt work.  I eventually reset my Linkstation 500GB to defauts to clear the errors.  I have since bought a second Linkstation 320 GB that I use for backups now. When you backup to second linkstation there is a box you can check called "ignore errors" that is not available with USB drives.  I dont know why that is.

When I tried to use my USB drive to backup my Linkstation Live 500 it failed the backup without cause. Then I had to reboot to try and get to the Linkstation menu. I then found after the reboot I could no longer access the device. I put into EM mode. So I then had to reflash again. This was my second time. Go figure, trying to back my valueable data causes my Linkstation to crash badly.

As far as I know, the only way to cancel a backup job is to reset the unit. Unfortunately, this will wipe out the configuration as well.

This would be a nice feature to have since some backups take hours to complete.

Another nice feature would be the capability to save configurations. That way when you do have to reset, you can easily get back the setup.

Rats!

I was hoping I would be able to run an xTerm session directly into Linux and cancel the job after enlightenment on commands I would need to perform via this thread. It must be possible within the OS, just the user interface does not provide the facility.

Inclusion in next version of Firmware consideration me thinks, so hopefully Buffalo read these forum notes.
