LS-WTGL/R1-V3 Disconnects

I just installed a LS-WTGL/R1-V3 on my network and am having problems with the mapped drive disconnecting. I am using a windows workgroup, no passwords.

 

I am running windows 7, 64 bit,, LS-WTGL/R1-V3 is firmware 3.09.

 

Some other things:

 

Set Static IP to 192.168.1.76

changed name to "Linkstation"

power switch is set to on, not auto

 

I can map to \\Linkstation\share or "file://192.168.1.76/share">\\192.168.1.76\share"  but in either case, it shows disconnected with the red X after a time. Right now I have it mapped with IP and if i click, i connects right away.

 

Two other things to note.,,, My old Linksys NAS stays coonected, as does my FreeNAS.

have you had issues since you have mapped to the ip address?  Also are there any firewall or antivirus programs that you can disable to see if that would help.

Yes, still disconnects with IP. I could disable AVG firewall, but my other NAS boxes disappear. I am going to fire up an XP laptop and see if that drops too.

OK, here is an update to my problem. Nothing is broken :-)

 

Here is the condition,,,

 

1. My explorer was "pinned" to my taskbar

2. I closed explorer by clicking x in upper right corner.

3. Samba times out unused connection and I get red x when I reopen exploer.

 

4. Older version of FreeNAS and LINKSYS NAS not timing out.

5. When I upgraded FreeNAs I got the same condition as Linkstation !!!!

6 Also noticed if I simply minmized explorer it would nut time out.

7.  If I put a shortcut for explorer on desktop you dont notice that they have timed out

 

So, needless to say, it was a question of understanding how newer os works and how newer samba must work.
