HD-H250LAN 5 flashes, ROM problem, now what?

I bought this 4 years ago in the USA, and have been using it continuously at home in Australia ever since. So... it is way out of warranty!

Love the unit - I did need to tinker with it about 2 years in, to oil the fan to reduce the fan noise, but otherwise it's been great.

However, now I've got the 5-flashes when I switch the unit on. The LAN connection to a switch flashes when I turn the unit on, indicating a network connection, but since the 5-flashes comes up pretty quick, this soon turns off again, and it doesn't stay connected.

I have already copied the complete contents to another disk on a Linux machine... meaning that I can lose all the data if I have to, but I would prefer not to have to.

So... I'm currently looking for ideas of what else I can try, to resurrect this thing, including the possibility of buying replacement PARTS for this unit.

Thanks in advanc.

It sounds like a bad memory issue with the device.  We don't do any out of warranty repairs, or offer any parts.  If the device shuts down soon after startup there is nothing that we can recommend to fix it.  I'm glad you have your data backed up, even a firmware flash couldn't save this thing.  It's about time to find yourself another nas.  Thanks for enjoying your device and hopefully we can be more helpful next time.
