I connected a 1tb external USB drive to my Linkstation Pro LS-XHL 1TB, formatted it so that it was recognized, then set up a backup schedule. Yesterday should have been the 2nd backup, but when I tried to view the contents of the drive to make sure the backup occured, NasNavigator says that it is disconnected. Yet it is plugged into the Linkstation and powered on. So even if a backup were scheduled, it would not have run. This scares me, if I cannot trust it to run the backup jobs I ask of it, how safe is my data?

What kind of external harddrive?  Does it have a sleep function?  What firmware are you running?  What were your backup settings?

lopix

Just one big disk, as far as a know, standard USB external with no sleep function. It is either on or off.

Firmware is 1.10, the lastest as far as I know.

Can you give me a model number of the drive.

PCPiranha

Sorry, the make and model of the external HDD...

lopix

I don't know the exact details, there is nothing anywhere on the outside of the drive. It is a Digital Research 1tb USB external drive.

It is identical to this drive - http://www.slipperybrick.com/2007/08/iomagic-terabank-provides-1tb-storage-space/

This does not appear to be a regular USB drive... It's a drive enclosure for two hard drives. I really doubt that device will work as expected with our Linkstation. The Linkstation expects a regular single USB drive. I have a feeling that if you tried a regular, single disk USB drive, it would work as expected

That is the way I bought it, as a package. And it worked fine to begin with. The Linkstation saw it and formatted it and accepted it as a backup destination. That was about 2 weeks ago. Today I checked and it showed the USB drive as disconnected.

I am also have got the same problem while loading with the USB drive. Thanks for sharing the good information with everyone. I am very happy to get the information through this forum.

I also wanted to mention that I have a Rocketfish HD enclosure with an older HD in it. I did try to connect that to the Linkstation and it did not recognize it. But it did recognize the other drive, plus format it. So I do not think the issue is with the drive, or it not being supported.
