hi,

am new here so i hope someone can help me on this.

The only major difference between the two i can see is that the LS-XHL has a high performace architecture.  Now the price for this is alot too.

Has anyone had any experience with both and tell me whether it is worth paying more for the pro or should i go with live.

Need urgent advice as this are on order and might need to cancel and get the other ones.

Thanks

One thing to keep in mind...

The CHL is older, and older products tend to receive fewer firmware-based updates than newer products (such as the XHL).

Obviously this has an indefinate meaning, but just something to consider.

Well i must say that is not a good sign.  If i do buy the XHL and after one month say another product WHL comes out so i face this issue as limited fewer firmware updates etc.

Maybe another point to consider too.

Most Nas products have firmware revisions coming out for old and new models.  This is for every manufacturer!

so what is the best advise if i can afford go for the newer model? worth it or waste of money.

Saying that cos when i get the 1TB of XHL i could get 1.5TB of CHL if not less.

Does the benefit of the new model outweight the benefit of having extra storage on CHL.

Your best bet would be to go with the XHL.   If you can afford it.

Don't know about XHL, but the torrent doesn't work on the CHL and it never has. Its well documented on this site. Firmware update has been due for many months to fix it and no sign of it.

Don't know if XHL has torrent function but if it has, do LOTS of research to make sure it is reported as actually working.

chrisnasah,

The feature set of the CHL and XHL are very similar... I don't know of any differences offhand. The big difference is the performance. The LS-XHL is much faster. Our XHL gave me write speeds of about 20 MB/s over Gigabit for one large (~1GB) file. The CHL is slower, on the order of 9-15 MB/s, hence the price difference.

cecilrhode,

I know you're frusterated with the torrent function, but you're being hyperbolic. The torrent feature DOES work, I took our CHL home a few months ago to test it, and it worked with all the torrents I tried.

Get the XHL if those are your only options, much faster as already stated and for ME, all advertised features work as expected.  I have no personal time with the CHL, just know the specs.
