LS-CHL996:  FW1.02

I was trying to do a direct copy to my LinkStation drive from a USB drive and I followed the instructions from the knowledge base.  After attaching the drive and starting the direct download, the Linksys drive appeared to be receiving data, (i.e. the Function LED began blinking and likewise the function light on my Seagate USB drive began blinking indicating that the drive was performing an operation.  All seemed to be working fine.  After a few hours, the function keys ceased blinking, indicating that the operation was complete.  I removed the USB drive according to the instructions and when I checked the LinkStation drive, there was no folder created and no files copied. I received no error message.  In short, it looks like the drives went through the process but never copied the files.

Any suggestions?

The documentation implies that only certain file types can be copied but it doesn't stipulate that the files need to be in a  particular folder on the USB device.  It appears that the files need to be in the root directory of the source drive - is that correct?

I have exactly the same problem and exactly as you have described.  However my drive is a LS-XHL 1TB with firm ware 1.03.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I tried this on a WD and a Seagate  USB drive (both FAT32) and an Olympus Camera.

Anyone have any suggestions?  Has anyone had any success doing this operation??????

Ken what is the filesystem of the external hard drive?  Try formatting it to XFS with the linkstation.  I would also update the firmware.  Let me know if the problem persists.

KenStupka

Following the instructions in the User's Manual for formatting drives, I opened the Web Administrator and there is no selection for System/Storage - only for System.  I did not find any formatting tool at all.  Windows does not format drives with FXS

Disregard my last reply:  Apparently I am blind and dumb- I found the format utility.

Go to disk management > disk format and select USB1 and XFS in the web interface.
