I cannot map to the Terastation folders even though I can see the IP address and can ping it.

In the Terastation Client Utility Mapping is grayed-out.

I tried disabling all permission for the shared folders too.

I've tried resetting the device and password.

Device: Buffalo Terastation HD-HTGL329 (1.6TB)

Firmware 1.12 (It wouldn't let me update the firmware)

OS  Windows XP Pro

Linksys SD2005 Switch

I've spent two days digging through the forums and hours on hold waiting for Buffalo support. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

Type in "\\IP" in the run command.  Then just right click on the share and go to map network drive.  If this doesn't work make sure to give an exact error message.

I tried as you suggested.

Error message is...

\\IP is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path is not found.

Thanks for the quick response.

PCPiranha

and you typed in the correct IP right?  The one that shows up in the navigator?

craigsct

I did. And when I browse for the Ip address using Map Network Drive I can see it. But I cannot access any folders or data on it.

PCPiranha

do you have access permissions set?  If so when did you set them?  Does it happen when they are disabled?

craigsct

the access permissions were set quite awhile ago. I turned the permissions off and it didn't seem to make a difference. all permissions were at least read-only so i should still be able to see the data.

craigsct

I'm almost will to give up on the data and start from scratch. Is there an easy way to flatten this thing? At this point it's just a blinking paper weight.

PCPiranha

Just delete the raid array and create a new one.

I was finally able to install the new firmware and I can see the data through an .ftp client. The network administrator can access the Terastation through an Administrator account by not his regular account. So it must be a permission issue. Could it be a Domaim/Workgroup issue? I can now get to the data or delete it but without fixing the access for basic users...it's notuseful.

Thanks for following up.

Hmm, at this point in time I would reset the unit, create a couple users and make sure you can connect using them.  Then test with access restrictions.  An initialization is always a good thing to try after a firmware update.
