Moving Files Between Folders

I have a LinkStation Live (500 Gig) and I need to know how to change folder permissions so that I can move files from one folder to another?  For some reason the folders have different permissions, even thought I'm the only user on the system.

Thanks

Log into the web interface and go to Shared Folders and then click on the folder you wish to change/view settings of.

Unfortunately, these are folders within the main shared folder, and only the main shared folder shows up in Folder Setup.

Model Name: LS-CHL F/W 1.01

You can only have "root" level restrictions

Perhaps I need to give some more detail.

I use my LinkStation Live with a Sonos music system.  To make matters simple - and because I like uncompressed music - I first mount the LinkStation Live Shared Folder on my desktop (Mac).

Then I create a folder within the Shared Folder with the name of a particular CD.

I then drag the .aiff files from that CD - mounted on my desktop - into this particular music folder.

All, usually, goes well - I've done this for 50 or 60 CDs - works great.

But along the way some of the folders that I've created in the Shared Folder, have ended up with a different set of permissions.

It's these folders - within the Shared Folder - that I need to change the permissions for.

Does the LinkStation Live allow for folders within the Shared Folder permissions to be changed?  It seems like it should - even if that accomplished by the host computer that the Shared Folder is mounted on.

I would be glad to change these permissions using Unix, but even when I'm logged in as Root (unix) on my Mac, I'm still told I don't have access to change their permissions.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

As far as the linkstation is concerned the permissions can only be changed on the share itself, anything below that would inherit those same permissions.

If certain files still have permissions they must have carried over somehow or got applied in error through some sort of anamolous behavior. Often times when you can access a folder for a particular reason on one of our nas drives it'll manifest itself as some sort of user/pass prompt with no valid entry. If there were permissions that were on these files/folders they should get stripped when moved onto the LS.

I would try deleting those folders and recreating them.

"Often times when you can('t) access a folder for a particular reason on one of our nas drives it'll manifest itself as some sort of user/pass prompt with no valid entry."

This is exactly what's taking place, and there is not password that works.

Why is the Linkstation Live doing this for a few directories and not for the rest?  They were all created in the same way.

Is there an 'internal' way to change these directories on the Linkstation?
