when i plug my HD-HB300U2-WR drive into my USB connection of my laptop it doesn't show up in 'my computer' as a mapped drive to connect to, any ideas? it does show up as a device in the device mgr though.

Hmm, what options do you have when you right click it in disk management?  Also try plugging your laptop into an outlet (might not have enought power going though the USB port).

thanks for your response.

the laptop is plugged in to an outlet, so don't think it's a power issue.

Looking at the Diskmanagement utility again:

-the file system for that volume is blank.

-and it's showing 100% free space (not good i guess, b/c i know i have 200gb of data out there)

-if i right click on that partition, the only selection that is not greyed out is 'delete partition'

any other ideas on what might have happened?

PCPiranha

Sounds like file corruption, the only options are to format or recreate the partition unfortunately

cbysea

any way i could take it to some type of data recovery service and they might be able to salvage my files??

Yes, we recommend drivesavers.  They have been in the buisness for 25 years and last I checked they offered a discount to buffalo customers.

check them out at drivesavers.com
