Hi all,

I'm currently trying to revive my TeraStation (TS-8VH24TL/R6EU) after a year out of action as it appears to have a firmware issue and unfortunately I'm out of the warranty period. This comes on the back of my hard drives being stolen, so not exactly a lucky machine! Never the less, here's where I'm at:

Set-up:
- TS and laptop plugged into 5-port switch, switch connected to router (all wired), TS receiving DHCP address.
- USB recovery disk created, booting via USB mode (enabled on back). Unit boots to red screen "Welcome to TeraStation".
- 8 bays, 4 x 1TB & 4 x 750GB (not original disks, but checked and all working)

Steps taken:
- TS showing in NasNavigator2 with DHCP address and has detected that the unit is in it's recovery mode.
- Connected 8 hard drives to a desktop, used DISKPART and 'Clean' command to erase the disks before putting them into the TS.
- Have tried to install firmware 1.3, including rebuilding the partition table, delete-user config and force update - as outlined by the Buffalo PDF guide.

After a while of formatting, I receive the error 'Format failed. Update aborted'. When I initially run the firmware update, my TS shows up with it's information including IP address however the firmware doesn't have a version, it's simply showing as "---".

Also, I didn't think this would be an issue but can someone confirm if every drive has to be the exact same capacity? As I have 4 of one type, 4 of another - but in theory it should still work right?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Good day,
Did you ever find a resolution to this?  I am having similar problems with the Format failed, update aborted and my setup is very similar to yours, thanks!

Edit the TSUpdater.ini and try again

VersionCheck = 0
NoFormatting = 0

[SpecialFlags]
Debug = 1

Thanks for the tip, I have edited mine and it looks just like that except no formatting is set at 1.  I am afraid if I set it to a 0 all of my data will be lost.  Can anyone confirm that with it set as a 0 it will not erase data?
