Can old NAS devices continue to connect indefinitely?

I bought the Terastation Duo two bay model TS-WX2.0TL/R1 back in 2012. Since upgrading to Windows 10 and getting new machines I can't see the drive, complete with shares. My question is this; Is there anything about the drive that would cause it to be incompatible? Or, is it always going to be a problem on my PC side?

I've tried disabling the virus protection. I've tried reinstalling the Terastation with the latest Navigator2. I can see the drive in Navigator2 but not the share. It is also not visible on File Explorer in Windows.

Is my choice at this point to get newer technology than the 2012 NAS?

The older NAS only has SMB version 1 as it's file sharing protocol. Microsoft has disabled SMBv1 by default in newer versions of Windows because it's considered an insecure protocol.

At this point your options are to enable SMBv1 on your Windows systems or replace the NAS with a newer unit that supports SMB 2 or SMB 3.

Thank you so much. I tried so many things I felt like an idiot. I will now proceed to update/upgrade and don't feel like I just blew money because I wasn't tech savvy enough.
