I have just set up a TS-H1.0TGL/RS (SN 95821090401872) on my network.

I run a windows domain network (Win2003) with two domain servers with Active Directory, and DFS file stores. For a vairiety of reasons I wanted the files off of the servers, and purchased the Buffalo unit which runs in a RAID-5 configuration.

I copied my files to the share and set up a dfs root-share named "Scriptor" with several links such as "Abbey" "Photos" "Users" "Profiles" "AppData" etc.

As you can see, a user needs access to these files to in order to log on to a computer with their proper network profile.   Errors that I get states "Windows cannot access" and that you have permissions.

I find no way from the web interface to set permissions on the hardware. Windows access to the files in question do not permit the changing of owners or permissions. Access to the file store from a Linux computer does not recognize the smb folders.

Obviously I need to have my users able to access their files and profiles.

Thanks, Elias

Marcel

You will first need to set you unit to recongize the active directory list.

Login to the LS Pro >

Basic Tab

1) Change the hostname of the LS Pro. This will be needed later
2) The Time, Date and GMT are VERY important. If they differ more than 5 minutes with the Domain Controller, it will not authenticate users.

Network Tab- IP Properties

1) Disable DHCP, and assign a static IP address.
2) Set the DNS server to a DNS server on the Domain. It is recommended to have the DNS server be the same as the Domain Controller.

Network Tab- Workgroup/Domain

1) Set Network Type to Active Directory
2) Set the NetBIOS Name to NetBIOS Name of the Domain. Example: google.com would be just google
3) Set the DNS/Realm Name to the Full Qualified Domain Name. Example: google.com would be google.com
4) Set the Domain Controller Name to the Domain Controllers name. This is NOT a Fully Qualified Domain Name.
5) Enter the Domain Administrator's Name
6) Enter Domain Administrator's Password
7) Even if they are NOT using WINS they should enter the IP address of the Domain Controller
8) Click Apply

Afterwards check user management and group management to see if the active diretory list were pulled. This may take up to 5 minutes.

Once the AD list has populated you can go to Shared Folders and click the yellow tab in front of each share. At the bottom of the next page titled Shared Folders you will see access permissions. Here you can choose which users can read/write and read only.

I have just set up a LinkStation Quad LS-QL/R5.

I can access its share folders fine from my Windows XP and Windows Server 2000 SP4 machines, but I get a "not permitted" message when I try to access it from any Windows Server 2003 machine, some with SP1, some without.  Is there a setting on the servers that I need to check?

I have hardcoded the Linkstation IP address,  made the LinkStation a member of the domain and set the domain's active directory controller as the Authentication server and WINS and primary DNS servers, and updated the firmware to version 1.10 and the problem persists.

The domain controller is one of the machines running Server 2003 SP1 and it exhibits the same problem.

Any Ideas?

Are you attempting to access the NAS by it's IP or hostname?
