RAID is not a replacement for a backup! Here's why.

We have a Terrastation Pro that has worked well for years.  We had a recent power outage and the unit shut down while on our UPS.  Upon restart, the unit was not able to be accessed.  On the unit display, we do not have any error messages and no bad disk lights - All green and flash every few seconds.  The unit goes through what appears to be the normal bootup (Loading Kernal... etc) but then it just remains on "Link Speed 1000Mbps".  Pressing the Display button does not change the display image.
When using NasNavigator v2.82, the unit is discovered and displayed - All the correct unit information is displayed and shows firmware 1.35 - No error messages.  We are able to successfully Ping the static IP address.  Upon connection attempt either through NasNavigator or web, a page error message is loaded:
     "Internal Server Error
      The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
      Please contact the server administrator, admin@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you
      might have done that may have caused the error.
      More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
      Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the
      request.
     Apache/1.3.34 Server at Linkstation-LSGL Port 80"

We have tried TSUpdater but when it runs, it comes back with a message:  "TS-RHTGL that needs updating wasn't found".

We have confirmed that the static IP address is not being used by another device.

We have completely powered down and rebooted the unit a number of times - No change.

Any additional recommendations and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

davo

Debug the firmware and select "Do not check version", "force update" and "Delete user data partition"

Okay - So Davo got me going in the right direction - Big THANK YOU!

Along the way though, HDD1 went into a failure condition - Whoo Hoo - Bonus!.
So, my RAID 5 Terrastation is currently running in Degraded Mode.

     HD1 Error E23
     HD1 is Faulty

     RAID Error E13
     Array 1 Error

     OperationModeI12
     Degrade Mode

(If replacing a HDD in RAID5, be sure that you DO NOT remove a 2nd HDD - On purpose or on accident.  You'll make recovering your data exponentially more difficult if possible at all)
The HDD are inserted into the chassis in the following order - Do not necessarily rely on the labels of the chassis covers - They may have been inserted incorrectly as mine were at some point.
     1   [display]  3
     2                  4

Here's what I eventually did to solve the connectivity issue:
(A lot of this came from "Paul" posted in September 2008 - THANK YOU!)

Force the Firmware Update:
    Download and extract all files from the firmware update. DO
    NOT download the firmware to the NAS itself. The file is to be executed
    on a PC separate from the device. Running the firmware update from the
    device itself can lock out the NAS and make it unreadable.
    Open up the .ini file (usually something like TSUpdater.ini) in a text editor program. It should read something like this:

[Application]
Title = BUFFALO TS-RHTGL Updater Ver.1.35
WaitReboot = 480
WaitFormat = 500

[Target]
ProductID = 0x00002008
Name = TS-RHTGL

[Flags]
VersionCheck = 0

[SpecialFlags]
Debug = 0

    Change "Debug = 0" to "Debug = 1".
    Save the file
    Then run the TSUpdater application again.
    Once it launches, Right-click on the program's topbar and choose "Debug Mode".
    (This is just the top frame of the window - Nothing says "Click here" - Just right-click on the top frame and a menu will show up)
    You now have some new config options:

    "Do not check version" - Tells it to not check the version, check this when forcing.
    "Rebuild partition table" - As far as we know, deletes and
    rewrites the partition table. Not necessary for force, but may be valid
    if not worried about data.
    "Delete user-config" - Should just delete the user-made
    configuration changes (like Maintenance->Initialization in GUI), but
    may delete data, so be cautious.
    "Force update" - Tells it to force the update even if the same version is already on there, check to do a force of update.

    **(Here, I only selected "Do Not Check Version".  I did not select Rebuild Partition Table as suggested by Davo - I wanted to preserve my data)**

    After making the changes, click OK to save them and then Update to run the forced update.

    The Terrastation went through the update process, rebooted, etc.
    Upon completion, I launched NASNavigator2 and was able to open the Browse folder - Voila!    All the files were there.
    Began backing them up to a new 5TB HDD array just to be sure before rebuilding the RAID array with the new HDD I ordered.

    I'll follow back on how that goes.....
