I am trying to install my Buffalo Blu-Ray Drive (BRXL-PC6U2) on my Dell Inspiron 5558 that is running Windows 10 Pro (8 GB, 64-bit). I hooked up the drive and installed the software on the accompanying CD-rom. I'm really only interested in this thing playing Blu-ray. I don't care about burning discs or making some kind of multimedia extravaganza.

I put in a test Blu-ray to see if it runs, and.. I don't think it does. First of all, the software this thing comes with is more interested in trying to get me to upgrade (for extra money). I'm not doing that. It definitely reads the disc because the CyberLink Power Media Player (that I installed using the enclosed CD-rom) names the disc and says that it's in drive E. However, when I first put the disc in, I get an 'information' pop-up saying 'There's a disc with an unsupported format in Drive E:\'. That disc is a Blu-ray, this is a Blu-ray drive, and I bought this Blu-ray drive to play my Blu-ray! Still, when I click away from it, it says that 'TWIN PEAKS DISC 10' is in Drive E. Soo.. It knows there's a disc there and it knows what it is.

What did I do wrong? How can I fix it? Did the drive not install properly? Or is the software to blame? Is there another FREE Blu-ray playing software that I can use in conjunction with this player? I'm not willing to pay for software because I already paid for this drive that should be able to play my disc. I'm not the techiest person, so I'm a bit clueless when it comes to these things. I bought this drive because it had great reviews on Amazon, but I'm not so sure why..? Thank you for any help you can give!

Now, I'm not sure if that number above is referring to the drive or the software. It's a Buffalo High Capacity Portable BDXL writer - a Blu-Ray Drive. I hate Windows 10, and I don't even know where to find it in the settings on this computer. I don't know if the driver needs to be updated, but I don't where to start. If you can tell me what information I need to provide and how I can find that information. Because I don't know..

EDIT: Oh, now I see that no one responds to any messages on this board. That's helpful. Luckily, I realize I never left feedback for this drive on Amazon!

Thanks for your thoughtful and extremely helpful response. When I purchased the drive, I was actually using another computer which ran Windows 7. I had done a lot of research, and everything about this drive and software seemed compatible and a good idea. I never ended up installing the drive on that computer, and, a few months later, that computer's hard drive died, and I was forced to buy a new computer. At that point, it didn't make sense buying a Windows 7 machine; I bought 8, and it updates to 10, whether you like it or not.

That being said, this drive cost me about $100, and there's no good reason why it doesn't work with this computer. Are you telling me that everyone who had this drive before updating their operating system was forced to buy a new drive that specified Windows 10? I have two printers that are like, 8 years old and a 5 year old scanner.. All of which installed seamlessly, and I have been using regularly, with this new computer. I bought them for a Windows 2000 computer. I'm using an old copy of Photoshop that I used on my Windows XP! I mean, I just bought this drive last year, and you're telling me it's 100% unusable. Okay..
