Small Files Taking Up 128MB on new LS421!

Since I've been having issues trying to backup 1TB of data from a LS-WXL29C to a 3TB external USB drive, and getting nowhere (4 days and only 578GB done), I went out and bought another Linkstation (you would think I would have learnt). This time I opted for a LS421 fitted with 2x3TB drives. Because what I want to store on this are really important (photos and videos), I set it up as a RAID 1. I also have a LS-WVL08D set up as RAID 0, but as I have this backed up to external drives, and they're not critical stuff, I don't mind using RAID 0.

Anyways, having dumped the LS-WXL29C, I copied across all my photos and videos to the LS421 overnight. I was just doing a double check in Windows Explorer to make sure everything had been copied across, and then it hit me. I just did a right-click, properties to get the number of files/folders on both NAS units and all seemed well. That was until I looked at the next property 'size on disk', and the figures were astonishing. A 4.9MB image on the LS-WVL08D took up 5MB of disk space, whilst on the LS421 it took up 128MB.

What's going on? RAID 1 is simply files being mirrored on two drives, so why do the files take up so much space? I have loads of old digital photos that were around 300Kb. At this rate, my RAID 1 3TB won't last long. I've also been through the manual and can't find anything about this. ADDITIONAL INFO - 70.3GB of photos and videos are now taking up 1.70TB!

Just an update on this. In the NAS navigator, it shows as having used just over 1TB. When I open Windows Explorers, and under 'This PC', the graphic shows as having used just over 1TB, but if I right click any of the folders it shows these astronomical figures. The LS-WVL08D that I copied the files from shows the file sizes correctly.

The issue I have now is that it doesn't recognise my 3TB backup USB drive, which the LS-WVL08D does.

I've just noticed this as well, is there a known resolution to this issue? i have 2 3TB hard drives in an LS421 and the discrepancy in file size and size on disk is staggering, having 1.3 TB on the NAS of actual files caused it to show as full
