CloudStor CS-WX2.0 Device Failure Questions

Hi all:

After almost 3 years, my Cloudstor CS-WX2.0 NAS device has failed after a power failure although unit was attached to UPS device. Blue powerlight is blinking constantly even after switch is turned off. The unit was set up for RAID1 with a backup going to the pogoplug cloud.

Since unit is no longer manufactured am having difficulty getting help from Buffalo's techs. Their only suggestions were to cut the power entirely from unit (disconnect DC power supply), then reconnect and restart. If after 5 minutes then disconnect again and try removing one of the two drives in the unit and restart. Nether suggestions worked. I then placed a new drive in the left side and restarted hoping that it would initiate a reboot. Again no luck. Finally I tried a suggestion from another post to shut off power using switch then turning unit back on while holding down the function button. Again no luck.

While I have a pretty good backup of most of the data on the pogoplug cloud drive as well as on several local harddrives, my most recent files did not back up prior to the failure. I have a USB3 baredrive unit which allows me to access SATA drives without needing an enclosure, but when I placed one of the drives (the left side) in it to see if I can access the files, Windows wanted to reformat that drive.

So here are my options and questions. Either find a replacement CS-WX2 CS-WV2 unit to at least access and back up the file data, or replace with the newer Linkstation 421e NAS.

If I did find a replacement WX2 or a WV2, would the drives work in them without the unit asking to reformat them, will the drives work in the Linkstation without them being reformatted, or is there a way to access the data on either of the two drives without Windows wanting to reformat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you find any solutions to this problem? I had a recent power surge through the cable line hooked to my modem which then hit the CS-WV through the network connection. I'm looking for a relatively easy solution to recovering the data from these disks. I had both bays in use RAID1 on 2 TB drives. Thanks for any help.
