Linkstation Pro Duo Opening a Shared File on Multiple Computers at the Same time

Hi All,

 

I am hoping that someone can assist.

 

I have a Linkstation Pro Duo LS-WTGL/R1-V3 F/W 3.09.

 

I have a shared drive set-up with users that have read/write access.

The computers on the network are XP Professional (6) and Vista Business (2) and we have some XLS files on the shared drive, all the computers can access them perfectly. However we want to be able to have 2-3 users open an excel spreadsheet at the same time.

 

I have had this done before through a Linux server, but it will not function on this device.

 

Does anybody have any suggestions?

   Are you trying to run the file from the Buffalo? If so it may only let one user at a time run it. If they copy said file to their computers and run it that way it should be fine. These don't really have the same abilities as a Linux server. They really are only meant to be a storage location and do not have the processer or memory power that a server would have. Try copying the spread sheet to the 2-3 different computers and run them from there.

   As far as im aware excel will only allow you to alter the content of one document by one user at a time, the athentication is passed to that one PC and until is is released you will not be able to change the data using a different PC.
