Hi all,

i was trying to search the forum for a possible result for my problem. I haven't found any solution that worked and it is getting me frustrated since this problem has been persistent for past months. We don't have an office admin and yet i try to fill in the gap since we are a very small company and i try to solve any technical problem that comes my way. To cut the long story short, this is one of the problem thats been buggin me and i can't seem to solve.

We migrated our working files and folders from a previous NAS disk to the Linkstation Pro Duo. After the transfer, everything went well and id say it was perfect for our small little office.

Out of nowhere, we have a couple of new folders that has its own custom access/ read only access. Here is where the problem lies... no matter how much i try to modify the access settings, add new users/ admin, groups etc etc with all the persmission from the browser config, i still cant have it changed.

Biggest issue that i now encounter is that i some files that was saved inside the folder (eg. PDF files), now since the files are in a read only state/ custom access state, i cant even open it in Acrobat or a quick preview...

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated...

Sounds like file corruption, I would pull of any data that I could and format the drive.

Hi Piranha,

Thanks for your reply.

Im not so sure that all the folders are corrupted tho. Its just some of the folders are not accessible. At one point, i used the admin account to go about the files, but problem is that a few weeks after, the admin account is limited to read only to  the folders which i find it highly strange.

I think your suggestion of formating the drive is valid but it just scares me due to the fact that it will definitely close the office for the weekend with me in it...

Regards.

hmmm, if you change the rights on folders the browser cache of the clients still keep the old access user/pw in one session. Log off/log on the client would solve it.

Next thing with user rights: if you have UserA in a group, the group has read only. You want to give UserA r/w permission and you do so- he can still read only till you remove UserA from the group. This is how the system behave. All users have the lowest rights given.

Sometimes I had it too that the system messes with the rights and deleting files was not possible. Fortunately I added more network shares. I did not happen in all folders. I created a new folder, tested it and did copy the files from the "problem folder" into it. That was it.

Sorry, I could not quite get what your exact problem is but I hope the stuff I wrote helps a little.
