WXR-1900DHP - Admin Password longer than 8 characters

Is there some reason that the firmware is limited to a local admin password of 8 characters?
I have not purchased a router in the last 10 years that has this limit, BESIDES this Buffalo product.
Seems like this is a gross error in the ability to secure the device.
