I have learned over the past few months that it is a waste of time using Buffalo's built-in Amazon S3 interface to backup your servers. You're better off finding a third party app and skipping the headache with the TeraStations. I found CloudBerry works great, is inexpensive and easy to configure. If you don't have an S3 account they even have a section that'll help you set one up.

The TeraStations are fine as file servers but their Amazon S3 service wouldn't work for me. I've tried different approaches and each has failed. I get time out errors when running a backup and I33 and I34 errors when running a replication configuration. So save yourself the hassle and look at a third party app for S3 interface.

I purchased two of these units specifically because of the claim to support S3 and because of their "24/7" tech support. Tier 1 is not particularly helpful and Tier 2 is difficult to reach.

Other than that, the TeraStations meet our business needs function well.
